Currently, the laboratory is delivering a recognized program that fulfills the requirement set by the National Accreditation Board and also the Engineering Accreditation Council. Apart from delivering accredited program, the laboratory is also progressing well in developing facilities that meet the needs for research activities. With the escalating numbers of students, the need to cater the demands for academic and laboratories facilities has also increased. As such, the laboratory has allocated in the newly-developed laboratory building which can accommodate about 30 students per sessions.
To further strengthen the research activities, these laboratories are equipped with new and advanced technology including advanced machines and software. For example, one of the latest advanced equipment is the Portable Digital Vibrometer (PDV), utilizing the Laser Doppler Vibrometry technology. This equipment is used to measure surface vibration velocity without any prior contact to the specimens. This portable equipment is easy to use and suitable for various applications. Such applications include predictive maintenance of machinery, bridges, building structures and also transportation.
Several research activities have been conducted by dedicated academic staffs. A few collaborations and consultation works have been made with local universities and industries. There are many research activities which are of interest. However, current researches are mainly focused to condition monitoring and vibration analysis, impact damage crash worthiness, damage detection and also smart structures. With all these facilities, equipments and committed academic staffs; the laboratory could provide students or researchers to a better environment. The proper environments also could potentially create a new ‘research activities’ environments which could boost more competence graduates for our nation.
